QGP and Modified Jet Fragmentation
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent progresses in the study of jet modification in hot medium and their consequences in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are reviewed. In particular, I will discuss energy loss for propagating heavy quarks and the resulting modified fragmentation function. Medium modification of the parton fragmentation function due to quark recombination are formulated within finite temperature field theory and their implication on the search for deconfined quark-gluon plasma is also discussed. Jet-fluid string formation and decay in high-energy heavy-ion collisions
We propose a new hadronization mechanism, jet-fluid string (JFS) formation and decay, to understand observables in intermediate to high-pT regions comprehensively. In the JFS model, hard partons produced in jet lose their energy in traversing the QGP fluid, which is described by fully three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations. When a jet parton escapes from the QGP fluid, it picks up a partner...

We calculate the direct photon yield in central and mid-peripheral Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) ( √ SNN = 200GeV). The processes involving the propagation of jets have been convolved with a leading order treatment of jet energy loss in the medium and a one dimensional hydrodynamic expansion. The quark-gluon plasma (QGP) contribution turns out to be important, e...
متن کاملModified Fragmentation Function and Jet Quenching at RHIC
Medium modification of jet fragmentation functions and parton energy loss in cold and hot matter are reviewed. The predicted nuclear modification of the jet fragmentation function agrees well with the recent HERMES data with a resultant energy loss dE/dx ≈ 0.5 GeV/fm. From the the recent PHENIX data of high pT π0 spectra in central Au+Au collisions at √ s = 130 GeV, one extracts an energy loss ...
متن کاملHigh pT Direct Photon-Hadron Correlations Using the PHENIX Detector
Jet tomography, the study of differential energy loss of hard scattered partons to infer the density profile of the medium, is greatly improved by precise knowledge of the initial energy of the hard probe. As photons are not strongly interacting, the momentum of the recoil jet from a direct photon trigger is balanced, to a good approximation, by the momentum of the photon. The energy loss of th...
متن کاملJet fragmentation in STAR going from p + p to Au + Au
Jet fragmentation functions provide insight into jet structure and are expected to be modified by the nuclear medium in A+A collisions with respect to p+p reference measurements. If jet reconstruction is unbiased then a softening of the fragmentation functions is expected and should be observed in Au+Au collisions at RHIC. In these proceedings we present measurements of fragmentation functions ...
